Aimee Winder Newton is the founder and principal of AWN Strategies, a consulting practice focused on technology policy, child online safety, and digital wellbeing.

Aimee served as Senior Advisor to Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox and as the founding Director of the Utah Office of Families, where protecting kids online became a signature focus. From that seat, she worked on the nation's first social media regulation law — and went on to advise policymakers across the country pursuing similar legislation. She helped implement Utah's statewide bell-to-bell phone-free schools policy, and initiated legislation creating a digital safety course for middle school students. She also advised on the first-in-the-nation App Store Accountability Act, AI chatbot regulation, and Utah's targeted advertising tax.

Her work is grounded in a simple conviction: kids do better when they spend less time on screens and more time connected to family and friends. That's why she directed the Governor's statewide campaign educating parents on the harms of social media and the CHAT campaign promoting family connection — efforts that reached more than a million Utahns.

Aimee has served on the Salt Lake County Council since 2014, elected to three terms representing more than 200,000 constituents and chosen by her colleagues as Council Chair three times. She has overseen a $2 billion budget, chaired the county's Intergenerational Poverty Task Force, and led mental health initiatives. She knows how government works from the inside — and she knows the political realities of how to actually get things across the finish line.

Before her time in the Governor's Office, Aimee owned a public relations firm and served as a city communications director and spokesperson, experience she still draws on when helping clients communicate with stakeholders and the media. In 2024, Utah Business magazine named her one of Utah's Most Influential Women. She was a 2020 Republican candidate for Governor of Utah and holds a degree in Mass Communications from the University of Utah.
